THE COUNT AND SINDEN finally have a new single coming out! It's called HARDCORE GIRLS and features RYE RYE on the vocals. It's the follow up to their smash hit 'Beeper' and they come hitting hard and ready for a fight. To quote the press release:
"Hardcore Girls" is a worthy successor to the exuberant bounce of "Beeper," the sound of the much hyped Baltimore breaks scene, evolved, displaced and mutated as only The Count & Sinden know how. Fronted by the hottest thing out of B’more since The Wire, 17-year old wild child of the mic, Rye Rye. She has been touring the states with MIA and, now signed to Interscope, she is set to do big things. Her unique and energetic vocal is treated to one of the duo's best bumpy bass grooves and the combined effect is nothing short of devastating.

In just 8 hours Canada’s 2008 Polaris Music Prize winner will be announced, however, this year seems to be a mixture of relatively unknown artists in comparison to last year’s nominated Arcade Fire and Feist (who lost to Patrick Watson). Of course there is Stars, but personally speaking I don’t believe that In Our Bedroom After the War is stronger than Set Yourself On Fire which is enough to keep the gold out of their hands. My vote is running for Holy Fuck, but with their Canadian Council of the Arts trouble recently would they be too risky of a pick? Going past my picks of either Black Mountain, Caribou and Holy Fuck I’d like to introduce the only hip-hop artist nominee and only second in the short history of the Polaris, the first being Cadence Weapon, Shadrach Kabango aka Shad. Bringing back the memories of how hip-hop was creatively done back in the day - think De La Soul - he’s certainly one to check out. Here’s his video for “The Old Prince Still Lives At Home,” one that I highly recommend you watch, especially around the 2:25 mark when Shad goes minimalist.
