Metronomy - Heartbreaker (Diskjokke remix)

Norwegian nudisco producer and all around friendly guy Joachim Dyrdahl AKA Diskjokke remixes the newest single “Heartbreaker” (will be released September 1st) from UK popdance outfit Metronomy. While the original sounds a little something like this: “From its hallmark opening bassline, to the synth-heavy powerchords of the whistle-along chorus, there’s no straying from the fact […]

Grandtheft vs. Nephew

When Team Canada was in Copenhagen doing a gig they got to hang with guitarist and manager of one of Denmark biggest rock bands Nephew. A LONG night of drinking turned into this amazing remix by Grandtheft of Nephew’s Roskilde 2007 live performances of ‘Hospital’ which features Danish rapper L.O.C.

On Off On- Exclusive Digitalism Remix of ‘Magnets’ + Stardust & Tears For Fears Remixes

L.A.’s On Off On (Andrew Verner) may have only been making electronic music for the past few years and remixing for only a fraction of that time, but shows us that he’s got quite the ear for busting out a good remix or two, as demonstrated here with his remixes of Digitalism (A Missingtoof Exclusive), […]

Drums Of Death

Most of you probably noticed rising Greco Roman star and London beatmaker Drums Of Death when he stormed into the blogosphere with his dancefloor killing remix of new Tricky track “Council Estate”. We got a completely different track from Drums Of Death, a bootleg blend of noted rockers Black Sabbath and it’s called “Ozzzy!”. Maybe […]

Little Jinder

Trouble & Bass is ready to show their softer side with the release of Little Jinder’s “Polyhedron” EP on August 5th. The vox come off as your ‘typical’ whimsical Icelandic/Nordic/Swedish pop fairy chick, but um the production is pretty damn fresh.

FRANKI’S COMICON DIARY: THE MOVIE & TV PANELS

One of the big deals of going to COMICON is checking out all of the new Hollywood stuff. Typically major studios will do panels for just about any and every superhero, sci-fi, niche or pop culture based show they have where they will bring down the cast, the director and show off unreleased material.

It's one of my favorite things to while I'm there. the excitement in the room (which holds 6500) is intense. Often times the stuff you see is shown months before the general public see it. The reaction of the Comicon crowd can sometimes make or break a picture.

The lines going into these panels are always ridiculously long, but sometimes prove to be as entertaining as the show itself. Here's a quick video of the scene outside THE WATCHMEN:

This year we were able to get in to see the panels for THE WATCHMEN, LOST and TERMINATOR: SALVATION. Here's a quick video a snagged from each:

THE WATCHMEN

In this video, Director ZAC SNYDER describes the lengthy process that went into and the history of bringing THE WATCHMEN from graphic novel to screen (and the footage they showed was dope!).

LOST

Executive Producers of lost DAMON LINDELOF and CARLTON CUES as well as MATTHEW FOX (aka JACK) put together a really fun panel and not only revealed a few juicy LOST details (our fave show), but gave away some prices too. In this video, some asks the question about what happens to the nameless survivors of the raft….

TERMINATOR: SALVATION

And finally, we hung around after the LOST panel to check out what was happening with the new TERMINATOR movie, and I have to admit, the footage they showed was pretty awesome. The new one takes place in the future after the armageddon. It stars CHRISTIAN BALE and is directed by McG. All of the cast was present except for CHRISTIAN, who was in JAPAN doing press for DARK NIGHT. Still, it was also a very fun panel.

This is one of the earlier questions that was asked where McG explains why this movie is set in the future and what the premise is:

FRANKI’S COMICON DIARY: DAY 1

So we made it to COMICON! I got a bunch of cool stuff to show you guys after this very overwhelming and fun weekend. Here's a quick recap of our 1st 24 hours:

After a wasted THURS spent stuck in traffic finding our way down to SAN DIEGO, we made it to the convention center in time to do a quick sweep of the lay out and acquire our pro badges. Out of the 6 years we've been coming to COMICON this was definitely the most packed I'd ever seen a THURS (typically SAT is the real busy day). There was no lack of costumed holligans running around and even just hanging out for an hour, it was quite a handful to take in.
Greg with brand new Comicon pass

After we got out of the con, we went to meet up with my friends, Julianna and Tyson, whose house we are crashing at. We dropped our stuff off, had a few glasses of wine and all went out to grab some food at a 'grill your own entree' style restaurant. I burned my finger, but we managed to take a couple stupid photos of each other:

Greg Acid Girls

After this exciting meal, we made our way out on the town to meet up with some comic book folk. We hit up a couple industry parties that basically featured a bunch of people who didn't know each other and comic book people just standing around. Although, the occasional free drink was nice. What really turned the night around was bumping into what became the weekend's 'Comic Book Party Posse' of Jim Mahfood, Dave Crosland, Scott Morse, Shannon and a couple more. We also ran into Tara McPherson while we were out. These folks would prove to be the ones that we would tear it up with all weekend. Check out the beginnings here:

Finally, THURS night ended with us retiring from the comic book world and invading some SAN DIEGO locals for a little after hours sitting around a porch and drinking some beer action. It looked a little bit like this:

Super motherfucking Villians god dammit. (Not many DJs are worth plagiarizing a MF Doom lyric—but Villains are).

Mt. Sims

Mount Sims was always my favorite of the electroclash generation… in 2002, “How We Do” was the anthem all by itself, and I must’ve listened to Ultra Sex one point one million times. His sophomore release Wild Lights ended up getting a lot less play on my stereo… partly due to it’s release during a […]
